Guest Post #2 at Rediscovering Domesticity!

Week before last Rediscovering Domesticity ran the first of three guest blogs about "Breastfeeding in the NICU" Rediscovering Domesticity is a blog I have been following for awhile now.
The first one "Breastfeeding in the NICU: an obtainable goal" is our breastfeeding success story. The second one, up today,  "Breastfeeding in the NICU: Things that help" is about some helpful advice I have gathered in my NICU experience.  So go check it out,  and while your there check out some of her other features, like bloggy basics!
And to all of Rediscovering Domesticity's readers checking out Frog in Stitches for the first time.. WELCOME!!
Here is some of my other NICU posts!

Drs: The Good, The Bad, The Dangerous

One of our best nurses, she taught us how to swaddle.
Most NICU mom's have gone through enough Drs that you can tell real quick what kind of Dr you have on your hands.
The first thing you must know and truly believe is, Drs are NOT God. Period.

"I need a pattern!" tutorial :)

Have you ever had one of those moments were your like.. "oh that is so cute!  If I only had the pattern..."  Well... If your creative, you don't necessarily have to have one!  :)  Granted I do suggest having a good sewing How-to book (This is the one I suggest, It's what I use!) since you won't have pattern instructions, and you may want to have a good seam ripper... Cuz you'll use it...
Gather your supplies :)

Make it Personal

Fun Blankets are the first way to make it yours
If your a long-term NICU resident like we were you will want to make your bed have some personality.  The longer you are there the more you will add to it.

Happy Easter!!

Hope your eggs are delicious :D

A Case of Happy

Friends are the best
When Lil' C got big enough that we cold hold him we started to introduce fun stuff.  We brought in books and some toys.

Getting connected

Lil' C on a good day..
I have been following Dan (of Single Dad Laughing) on his newest endevor, Will work for followers.  I'm trying to get this blog up and out there.  It's has been kinna stuck.  Well today I'm going to TRY adding twitter.....  I have never had twitter... nor ever had the urdge to tweet...  I was actually kinna proud of that fact.  I have enough websites I'm a member of!  I still have my MySpace!.. even though I haven't looked at it in in almost a year.. it's probably still there....

T-Shirt Skirts!

Finally a tutorial right???
I caught a sale at hobby lobby on T-shirts and loaded up (I couldn't even buy the amount of fabric in the shirts for the price I got!! Somewhere around $1.. ) and I have been planing on making  a T-shrit dress and a skirt for me..  Well the T-shirt dress was a massive fail...  I tried to get creative with the top and used one of my current tops to size for it... the only problem is that the shirt I used is a little high in the bust.. and with the loose back of the T-shirt.. oh .. just so much fail... So the Dress ended up becoming 2 skirts.  :)  So, I ended up making 3 out of the deal.

War of the Thermostat

Preparing for the move to the big boy bed!
The day finally came where Lil'C was big and stable enough to move to a new bed, one without a heating system.   We  continued to do the swaddle blankets but now he got to wear clothes and be held and read to and played with(some, on good days).  It was one happy day, but...

Guest Post at Rediscovering Domesticity!

Rediscovering Domesticity is a blog I have been following for awhile now.  She is such a sweet person and has some great features.  I love reading her Bloggy Basics for one!  Yeah yeah... I started my blog AWHILLLLLEEEEE ago but I haven't put much effort into it until recently...  so I'm still kinna a noob!
She asked me a bit back to do a guest post about Breastfeeding in the NICU.  It started as one.. and morphed into 3!  The first of which is up today! The first one "Breastfeeding in the NICU: an obtainable goal" is our breastfeeding success story.  So go check it out,  and while your there check out some of her other features!

Comfort Babies = Not worth the effort

Standard NICU position does not leave much room for comfort
When I began hunting preemie books I only found one that I recommend,  which is the Sear's book.  In it he refers to the incubator as a "womb with a view" and it made me smile, so I'll use it here :)
There is very little you can do when your baby is in a plastic womb, other than watch.  A few things that we found I'm going to share with you today.

Saving Your Sanity

Bored parents are easy to spot
The NICU is not really a comfortable place.. It is a medical place, there are things you can do to make it more comfortable for you and your child.
Our hospital had wireless internet, which was a huge blessing! It kept us from loosing our MINDS!!

Comfort Babies = Not worth the effort.

My dad forwarded me an email from the Glenn Beck show.  It was about how mad he was about something that was said by  Dr. Daphne Austin head of NHS (Britain's government healthcare system). She said  "We are doing more harm than good by resuscitating 23-weekers. I can’t think of very many interventions that have such poor outcomes. For me the big issue is that we’re spending an awful lot of money on treatments that have very marginal benefit. I would prefer to free up that money to spend on providing support to people who have much more lifelong chronic conditions" Mr Beck was upset that Don Berwick, head of U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, idolizes her.  He is afraid that US hospitals will start allowing their own preemies to die, for funding reasons.

What Mr. Beck does not realize is that this is already happening in this country.
